So, we have furniture now. The room got a ton of use this weekend.




All that remains at this point is:
- Framing the screen
- Switch plate covers and can lighting inserts
- Final paint touch-ups
- Door hardware installation

I won't be updating for the rest of the week, as I'll be in Chicago for training. When I'm back next week, however, you'll get to see the 100% final product. Well, for the theater room anyhow. The rest of the basement will follow at a later date.

February 5, 2009

Well, we have color. We are 100% loving the brown ceiling. The walls are taking some getting used to, but are growing on us. We'll see how it looks with the furniture, which arrives Saturday. All that is left to do here is get the "screen" framed in, speakers set up, and then we get to start decorating the room.

February 4, 2009

Today was a MAJOR day. We have carpet!

The stairs were carpeted.


As was the theater room.






Additionally, we went to pick out our furniture. We ended up buying two of these sets. For one set we got the sectional with matching ottoman, the other one we replaced the ottoman with the table shown below. Furniture arrives on Saturday.





In the meantime, we have chosen our paint colors. We're going with a butterscotch color on the walls and a dark brown ceiling to reflect the dark brown carpet. Hopefully the contractor will be able to get started on that soon.

Nothing major today - the window casing was installed. However...the carpet comes on Wednesday, February 4, so everything will look much different next update. Then we're picking paint color and furniture - stay tuned!

Big day today - we have doors.

A big day today! The riser has been constructed and the walls primed.

Also, last night, Empire Carpet came out and we selected a beautiful chocolate brown carpet, which should allow us to do some fun things on the walls. The carpet will be installed on February 3.

I think the contractor is coming today to hang the French doors in the theater room, but I could be wrong. Either way, all that's left in the theater room are doors, carpet, paint and furniture!

The contractor stopped by to drop off the wood for what will become the riser for the theater seating.

Tommy hung the projector briefly last night so we can get a preview of the screen size. It is large.

The contactor returned today for more mudding. He should finish up with the mudding and sanding on Monday, followed by the riser being constructed.

The drywall hanging began today.

Today the drywall was delivered, and the contractor installed part of the insulation.

Electrical weekend

Hi everyone -

Nothing much to post lately, except the Electrician came out all day Saturday, all day Sunday, and finally finished up Monday night. So, I refrained from taking photos, since all that has changed is the blue electrical boxes have appeared, and I didn't find that exciting enough to warrant photos.

But, the contractor should return this week to build the tier for the raised seating in the home theater.

Next up after that: insulation!

Great progress on the home theater.

Here we've got what will eventually be the wall on which the screen will be placed.

The doorway on the left will be French doors leading to the theater room itself. The door on the right to the "man behind the curtain" room where all the wires and electronics will live.

The contractor came today and framed so much he ran out of lumber. He'll be back Thursday with some more materials to finish up the framing.

The contractor returned today (Monday) to continue the framing, and began walling off some of the smaller rooms.

The electrician came out for a few hours today to install more lighting. Now that it's so much brighter than before, it feels a lot smaller than it used to. A few more lights need to be installed, and then the electrician is done until the framing is complete.

January 2, 2009

The contractor came over today to deliver the rest of the lumber and begin framing. We have walls forming!

Also the electrician was over to install the can lights. He comes back on the 3rd to finish that up and install a new circuit box, since there will be lots of electronic equipment in the basement when all is said and done.

We have lumber!

Yesterday afternoon the contractor brought by the first half of the wood. Here are some photos.

And so it begins!

Yesterday we officially chose a contractor. He will be coming later today (Tuesday, 12/30) to pick up the first portion of payment and go get materials to begin framing. But, before that begins, I wanted to get some "now" photos posted, so we can watch progress happen.
